As a native of the Washington DC area, Kia became actively engaged in community-based performing arts and youth programs where her love for entertainment and her passion for social justice

began at a very young age. Her work as a social change agent has continued as a prominent theme throughout her career.

Kia obtained a Bachelor of Science in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations from North Carolina A&T State University. She began her career in marketing and public relations with NASCAR’s Drive for Diversity program in Charlotte, NC. After many successful years in Corporate America, Kia desired a deeper connection to the community while maintaining her roots in arts and entertainment. Shortly thereafter, she obtained a Master’s degree in Counseling and has worked in non-profit and private sectors where she has honed her ability to understand people’s intended goals and translate them into measureable outcomes. Voted top 40 Under 40 in Delaware, Kia was honored for professional excellence and inspiring her community.

As the Director of the Wilmington, DE affiliate of Communities In Schools (CIS), the nation’s leading drop-out prevention program, Kia was one of the youngest to ever hold this position within the national network. She began as a site coordinator providing direct services to students and advanced quickly to

managing a $1.8 million budget and a myriad of programs that provided integrated support to students identified as having high socio-economic and educational risk factors. While managing the affiliate in northern Delaware, Kia was chosen to re-launch the CIS program in New York City through Diplomas Now, a partnership with Johns Hopkins University and City Year. She was responsible for the management of 18 staff members as well as the affiliate’s external affairs in Delaware and New York City.

As the president of Relevant Communications, Kia serves as a consultant to thought leaders in fashion, entertainment, sports, politics and non-profit management. She develops unique opportunities for her clients to expand their current brand and develop strategic partnerships while increasing their philanthropic engagement and reach.
