G. Stephen Williams serves as the External Affairs Manager for the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development in the City of Wilmington, Delaware. Stephen previously held the position of Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff for the City of Wilmington after joining Mayor Dennis P. Williams’s administration.
As a young man, Stephen grew up understanding the importance of service and supporting others. Throughout his life, he’s committed himself to impacting people’s lives in a positive way; specifically young people. After graduating from college and working in the private sector for 2 years, he made a choice to venture into public service, working for constituents under United States Senior Senator Tom Carper and for Mayor’s Dennis P. Williams in his home city of Wilmington, Delaware. Today, Stephen utilizes his current role as the External Affairs Manager to attract and maintain investment in the city of Wilmington. This enables the city to leverage relationships and resources that attribute to job creation and improving the quality of life for residents and many others who are interested in making Wilmington their home. Stephen believes that the most rewarding aspect of these experiences has been providing constituents with great service by being compassionate towards their needs, coordinating to meet daily objectives and addressing issues with effective strategies.
The best work Stephen has done hasn’t been in the office but rather in the community. Stephen has co-chaired the Achievers Program, Inc., an awarding winning mentor program, sponsored by the Wilmington Chapter of the Links, Inc. and the Wilmington Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. for African American male juniors and seniors in high school. The 6 month program is a comprehensive enriching experience for the young men, assisting them in their overall development and matriculation to the next phase of their lives. Stephen is also the founder of the Black Alumni chapter at his alma mater, Neumann University and the Nexters Political Action Committee, each of which is committed to promoting our youth and creating equal opportunity throughout society for all. Stephen’s current tenure as a board member of the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League Young Professional’s network and on the board of directors of Kingswood community center has offered him additional channels to address the needs of the people within the local community.
Stephen holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Neumann University and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA), from the Villanova School of Business. He currently resides in Wilmington, Delaware.
